3rd Marking Period: Game Worlds & Interactive Coding (Grades 3–5) In our 3rd Marking Period, students design and build their own interactive game worlds using Scratch. Through hands-on, project-based learning, they strengthen core coding skills such as sequences, loops, conditionals, events, variables, and debugging—while turning creative ideas into playable experiences. This class is designed for both new and returning students. Beginners are guided step-by-step and are up and coding quickly, while experienced coders are encouraged to extend their projects, add complexity, and iterate on their designs. Students learn to plan, test, debug, and refine their work—just like real developers. Collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving are emphasized throughout the session, with opportunities for students to share ideas, learn from one another, and take pride in their growing skills. What Parents Will Notice: From Player to Creator * Increased confidence tackling open-ended challenges * Stronger problem-solving and debugging skills * Thoughtful planning and iteration of projects over time * Pride in explaining design choices and how their games work * A clear shift from playing games to creating them
