Partnering with the City of Wilmington for Cyber Safety Month
November is Cyber Safety Month, and this year, Kai Coders had the incredible opportunity to partner with the City of Wilmington to help spread awareness about staying safe in the digital world. Our founder, Deanna Bledsoe, was honored to participate in a series of events that engaged parents, students, and community members in meaningful discussions about cybersecurity and the future of technology.
Breaking Down Social Media Safety for Every Age Group
Deanna delivered two impactful presentations focused on empowering parents with the knowledge and tools to keep their kids safe online. These sessions offered actionable advice tailored to the most popular social media platforms for different age groups:
Grades K-5: Roblox safety tips, including setting privacy controls, recognizing scams, and understanding how to monitor in-game interactions.
Grades 6-8: Navigating Snapchat safely by managing friend lists, enabling privacy settings, and avoiding location sharing.
Grades 9-12: Tackling TikTok by discussing the importance of content awareness, digital footprints, and the risks of viral challenges.
Parents walked away with practical strategies they could implement immediately, and the lively Q&A sessions provided an open forum for addressing specific concerns.
Exploring AI’s Role in Our Lives
In addition to these presentations, Deanna joined a 90-minute panel on artificial intelligence alongside experts Aaron Rose (Check Point Software), Chris Ramos (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency), and Demond May (City of Wilmington). The discussion covered AI’s growing impact on our daily lives—from Spotify recommendations to workplace transformation—and offered insights on how to use AI responsibly.
The panelists also fielded thoughtful audience questions, addressing topics such as the ethical implications of AI and how parents can prepare their children for an AI-driven future. As Deanna emphasized during the event, “Tech is always evolving, and at Kai Coders, we work hard to ensure kids stay ahead by understanding how technology works and its real-world implications.”
Showcasing Kai Coders at the Vendor Expo
Kai Coders also took part in the event’s Vendor Expo, where we had the chance to meet dozens of parents and community members. We shared our holistic approach to tech education, focusing on how we make coding fun, engaging, and accessible for kids of all backgrounds. Visitors to our booth were excited to learn about our programs and the ways we integrate creativity, problem-solving, and safety into every lesson.
A Heartfelt Thank You
We are incredibly grateful to the City of Wilmington for organizing such a fantastic event and for inviting Kai Coders to be part of it. Cyber Safety Month is a reminder that staying secure online is a year-round priority, and we’re proud to contribute to this important conversation. By working together as a community, we can equip kids and families with the knowledge they need to navigate the digital world safely and confidently.
Stay tuned for more updates from Kai Coders as we continue to inspire young minds and empower families through technology education!
